We would like to welcome you and your pet(s) to the Ruckersville Animal Hospital family!

COVID-19 Hospital Policy Update:

Due to the risks of both our staff and clientele, Ruckersville Animal Hospital will be continuing curbside service indefinitely.  While this is not ideal in any situation, it is what we must do to keep everyone safe.  All of our staff wear facial masks while within the facility, as well as when we come out to greet you in our parking area.  We have also numbered all of the parking spaces in front of our hospital to ensure we are as efficient as possible during appointments.

Please note the following procedure changes:

  • Upon your arrival, we ask that you call our hospital at 434-985-7924.  One of the Client Services Representative will take your information, including cell number and parking space number, and let the nurses know that you have arrived.
  • One of our nurses will contact you on the number you provided to get medical history about your pet including the reason for visit, any applicable vaccines/tests, laboratory recommendations, etc.  We also ask that you bring a copy of your pet's previous medical records should they be new to our hospital or have them previously send by past veterinary hospitals as well as a filled out "Welcome form" which can be obtained here.
  • We will ask that you bring your leashed dog or kenneled cat to the front porch area for the nurse to retrieve for their visit.  Please do not leave our facility without informing the staff prior to leaving.  This can cause issues with delays of medical treatment recommendations, specifically if we cannot reach you on your cell phone.
  • After the doctor has finished their examination, they will contact you to discuss treatment options and any administered vaccines.  They will also review any medication recommendations, additional testing, etc.
  • Once we have all of the treatments completed and medications filled for your pet, one of our Client Services Representatives will contact you to take payment over the phone.  We ask that all invoices be paid via credit card or Care Credit when applicable to minimize our contact with checks/cash.  If you are only able to pay via check/cash, we understand and will never deny services because of this reason.
  • After payment is received and your invoice is complete, the nurse who assisted with your pet's appointment will bring them outside to you and will review any applicable medications/diets and explain at home and follow up care.

Appointment Policy

All pet visits are scheduled by appointment only.  If possible, please schedule routine visits well in advance, especially if you are in need of a late afternoon or Saturday appointment, as these tend to book up quickly!

To make your appointment check-in more efficient, please visit our "Online Forms" page to print and fill out the client registration and hours of operation forms in advance of your appointment.  Just bring the forms in at the time of your visit!

To make your appointment run more smoothly, please provide previous veterinary records for your pet and/or the contact information for the office and we will do the rest!  This will ensure that we have as much health information as possible about your pet and that they receive the proper annual vaccinations/tests.

Surgical and Hospitalization Policy

All surgical, dental and drop-off appointments will receive a reminder via e-mail and/or text message 24 hours prior to the scheduled date.  Your appointment can be confirmed electronically through the received message.

All animals scheduled to receive sedation or anesthesia should be fasted beginning at 8:00 pm the evening prior to the procedure.  Your pet can still have free access to water up until your drop off time.  If your pet is not fasted the night before, there could be potential health complications prior to, during and after the procedure.  Most anesthetic medications used here at Ruckersville Animal Hospital can cause nausea when administered.  While we take the upmost caution with every pet receiving anesthesia, there are still risks associated for even the healthiest of pets.  Should your pet vomit during anesthesia, they run the risk of inhalation of small food/liquid particles, even with an Endotracheal tube in place.  Even the smallest amount of vomit could potentially cause aspiration pneumonia.

Drop off time for all surgical and dental procedures is 7:00-7:30 am Monday - Friday.  When you arrive with your pet for admission, one of our Licensed Veterinary Technicians will admit your pet and review information about the procedure, including any preanesthetic testing that is recommended/required.  Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and be sure to mention any health concerns about your pet that may change how we proceed.  The technician will also review the prepared cost estimate for your pet's procedure and will have you sign an authorization form and leave phone numbers at which you can be reached while your pet is hospitalized.  We also require a 50% deposit based on the estimated cost for all procedures. 

While your pet is hospitalized with Ruckersville Animal Hospital, we will do everything we can to ensure that the procedure proceeded without issue.  However, please understand that there are always risks associated with anesthesia.  The technician can and will review these risks with you and answer any questions you may have about your pet's procedure.  The doctor caring for your pet will contact you prior to or during the procedure should they have concerns and/or questions, but will also call you once they are in recovery to review the procedure, discuss medications and post-op care, and inform you of an appropriate time to pick up your pet.

At the time of discharge, you can be assured that our Licensed Veterinary Technicians will thoroughly review your pet's discharge information including exercise restrictions, diet changes, medication administration schedules and any necessary follow up appointments.  Should you have any additional questions, our veterinary staff is happy to answer them and provide additional information as needed.

Once your discharge instructions and medications have been reviewed, our client care representatives will present you with the final invoice for payment, in full, and then your pet will be released for a happy reunion with you!

**Please note that all animals admitted to Ruckersville Animal Hospital are required to be up to date on their Rabies vaccine and Flea free.  Should your pet require a vaccination or flea treatment while hospitalized with us, it will be done so at owner's expense.  Some exceptions may be made in the event vaccine/treatment may cause further harm to your pet's condition.**

Prescription/Medication Policy

Will will do our best to fulfill all medication requests within 24 hours.  However, some situations may arise when a particular medication is unavailable from the drug supplier due to events beyond our control.  Please understand that we will do everything we can to provide your pet with it's necessary medication, but in some instances you may need to purchase the medication from our Vetsource online pharmacy for home delivery or an alternate source.  This may cause unexpected delays in your pet's medication arriving to you so we advise you please try to provide at least 7 days notice for all medication requests.

All medication requests will be reviewed by our onsite Veterinarians prior to authorization.  As required by Virginia State Law, your pet must have been examined by a veterinarian at Ruckersville Animal Hospital within the last 12 months in order for any medication refill requests to be authorized.  Our Veterinarians reserve the right to deny any medication refill request due to lack of doctor/patient relationship, negligence of necessary blood-work/vaccines, etc.

Should you have concerns about any denials of medication refill requests that you have made for your pet, please call and speak to our veterinary staff.

Payment Options

Payment is expected when services are rendered. In order to focus on our patients' needs, customer service and minimizing costs, we do not bill.

We accept debit cards, credit cards (American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa), Care Credit, checks and cash.  *All cards must be signed by the owner of the card.*
