Why Senior Pets Need Extra Attention:
Your senior pet’s health will change as he/she ages, just like ours will. However, pets age faster than people do, so major changes can occur quickly!!
Early detection leads to longer lives (and lower vet bills)! Sometimes we can pick up on diseases before signs show. Many infectious diseases show few if any signs early on. As diseases progress or worsen, it may be harder for your older pet to fight against them and stay healthy.
Let us know if you notice any changes in your elder pet’s behavior, mentation, mobility, activity level or appetite.
Risks Senior Pets Face
- Heart Disease
- Endocrine Diseases
- Arthritis, stiffness
- Weight-gain due to changes in metabolism and decreased activity level--Excess weight can further increase the risks of developing heart and liver disease!!
Many diseases show few signs in the early stages, so bloodwork and regular exams are VERY important! We recommend wellness visits every 6 months and bloodwork at least yearly in senior pets!
